To setup an SPF record for your domain name, we will require the list of SMTP servers that you are using to SEND emails.

This is completely different from the list of servers in your MX record since the latter lists servers that RECEIVE emails for your domain name, not the list of servers that is used to send emails.

For example, yourdomain.com is hosted with netdesignplus.net. In this case, the MX record will point to a mail server for NetDesignPlus that is designated to receive emails for yourdomain.com. All email users of yourdomain.com will use an email client (such as Outlook / Thunderbird / Eudora / etc.) using the POP3 protocol.

On the other hand, yourdomain.com might already have an ISP connection within the organization's offices. This ISP provides them with an SMTP server to send emails. Some email users might be using their home connection to check emails as well and, from that connection, they might be using another SMTP server to send emails.

We will need the list of all of these servers (in addition to the default MX record which we can get) in order to setup the SPF record.

The reason is that once we create the SPF record with the list of servers involved, all other servers that are being used to send emails will end up being marked as SPAM by receiving servers. This might also lead to emails being rejected.

Furthermore, please note that some ISPs provide what is known as transparent SMTP servers. In other words, they map all SMTP traffic to their SMTP server in order to send emails. This helps them better shape their network traffic and cut down their international internet costs. Please contact your ISP and ask them if this scenario is being implemented. To make things easier, you can ask them if they do provide an SMTP server and we will add that server to the SPF record anyways just in case it was needed by organization members in the future.
